Pella Swim Club Awarded Theisen's Grant



On Nov. 4, 2013 Theisen’s announced Pella Swim Club had received a More for Your Community Grant.  Pella Swim Club a member of USA Swimming, coached by Jennie Hedrick-Rozenberg currently has 37 athletes with swimmers from Pella, Knoxville, Newton and Ottumwa. 
In its fifth year of helping Iowans, the Theisen’s More for Your Community Grant program announced $174,671 in awards to 147 agencies serving children and their families.
Through a corporate philanthropic partnership With the Community Foundation of Greater Dubuque, a Theisen’s More for Your Community grant of $600.00 has been made to Pella Swim Club for its project titled: Lightening Detector for the Pella Outdoor Aquatic Center. 

Announcing the grant, company President Jim Theisen said, “We are excited to grow our More for' Y our Community Grant program again this year. It is our honor to help nonprofits and their volunteers meet the most important needs of children and families. We are so proud to be a charitable partner in your community.”

WANTED ASSISTANT COACH

Pella Swim Club, a member of USA Swimming has an immediate opening for 2 part-time assistant coaches.  Interested individuals must be at least 18 years of age, have strong leadership skills and a willingness to help each swimmer reach their fullest potential in and out of the water.  A positive attitude, flexibility and enthusiasm are all important when working with our athletes and head coach.  Experience as a swim coach or competitive swimmer is a plus.  Candidates must demonstrate proficiency of swim skills in accordance with USA Swimming standards and be able to communicate effectively with swimmers and their parents.  Individuals must pass the USA Swimming Coach certification test and all safety training as required by USA Swimming.  Position is available immediately.  To apply for the assistant coach position please send a resume, cover letter and three professional references to: Pella Swim Club, 602 E. 8th Str., Pella, IA 50219 or email to PellaSwimClub@Gmail.com.

Athlete Votes Needed

The Pella Swim Club Sponsorship drive was a huge success this summer.  Local businesses and community members were extremely generous in donating over $4,700 this year alone. Due to such great success all championship meet fees will be paid for by the club, and all club athletes registered before September 29 will be receiving 2 personalized silicone caps, a team t-shirt and a swimsuit .  Any athletes registered before Friday, Oct. 4 will receive a team cap, shirt and suit.  

The athletes are being asked to vote for the suit style they like best.  The suit style with the most votes will be Pella Swim Club's official club suit for 2013/2014.  Please open the link below to view options and print to vote.  

Please have your athletes submit their vote by dropping the form into the USA Swimming mailbox found at the Pella indoor pool before
5:00 PM Thursday, Oct. 3 

All swimmers attending practice Tuesday, Oct. 1 are encouraged to leave their vote at the pool. 
 If your athlete is unable to drop off their ballot at the pool and would like to vote please email suit style preference to PellaSwimClub@Gmail.com.  

The winning suit style will be posted on the blog Friday, October 4.

State Meet Information

Host Club CRAA

*All relays are paid for by the club
*The club covers the first $30 of individual entries
(sponsorship dollars support the state fees) 

Parents: Please plan to volunteer one session as a timer should your athlete qualify an individual event/s or be named to a relay and plans to participate in the Long Course State meet . Our club is required to provide volunteers based on the number of athletes we have participating.  (Volunteers only need to attend a meeting approximately 30 minutes before the state session to time - there are no other requirements to time). 

Should an athlete not show up for a relay or scratch an individual event, that athlete's club account will be charged for those fees.  Please only commit to those events you plan to swim.  Please contact coach Jennie or Melissa should your athlete have a family emergency that would prevent them from swimming.

Sponsorship Drive Kick Off

Annual Sponsorship Drive

Start Date: July 1
Estimated Completion Date: July 31

Over $3,500 was raised last year through generous donations from local businesses and grants received.  

What was some of the money used for:
1) Team Uniforms – caps, t-shirts & coaches shirts ($837.62)
2) Championship meet entry fees (Including All-stars, Short Course State & Zones entry fees) (over $513 as of July 1)
Estimated Summer LC State fees: ($450)

What to do to participate:
1. By Tues., July 2 - Sign up for 6-12 businesses on Google docs – Yellow Column
a) If your family has participated in the past & collected money from a business then your family has been assigned those businesses again (please remove your name from the spreadsheet if you would rather not collect from a specific business) –
b) This is our club’s biggest fundraiser and all club athlete’s benefit though receiving team caps and shirts.  It is our hope that all will participate.  If your family forgets to sign up for businesses – your family will be randomly assigned  approximately 6 businesses to deliver the letter to.  
c) A hardcopy of the sign up will be at the CIA swim meet to sign up as well.
d) Deliver letters

2. By Thurs., July 11th – Have all letters delivered
a) Download the 2013 Sponsorship letter, print it and deliver it to the businesses your family has been assigned
b) Athletes are encouraged to make the connections with the businesses and wear their team shirts, preferably the one with the sponsors on the back.  
c) Last year it took our athletes approximately an hour to deliver 12 letters.
d)  Script to use if your athlete is nervous about approaching a business – included are facts about our club.

Note: some businesses will ask about the club and want more details, others will reach into their cash registers and hand you cash (please have an envelope ready to keep all donations in) while others will kindly let you know they do not participate in these types of fundraisers.  Please make notes on the Google docs spreadsheet.

3. By Wed., July 24th - Follow up with the businesses you delivered the letters to, this is critical to collecting the sponsorship funds.
a) Plan to leave a self-addressed envelope addressed with the business:
Some will mail in their donations. Please use the address below:

b) Each family will need to supply the postage and envelopes for their assigned businesses.

4. Wed., July 31 –  Drop money collected & paperwork into lock box at pool and update totals collected on Google Docs.
